MCCANNEY & GARCIA Threatening!

With a very fast and dusty KTM Enduro Test, this Polisport Grand Prix of Portugal has shaken up the standings in the Mika Ahola "Brave One" Trophy. There are now four riders able to take this coveted award. Let’s take a look...

While the current EnduroGP leader Steve HOLCOMBE (GB - Beta) still clings on to the top spot in the provisional rankings of this trophy, his weekend was not straight forward. Indeed, the E3 2016 World Champion never found his rhythm in the Enduro Test (9/7).
His lead was therefore eaten away in Portugal by two riders on smaller bikes; Jamie MCCANNEY (GB - Yamaha), 2nd Saturday and 1st on Sunday, and Josep GARCIA (E - KTM), 3 & 2.  The Factory Beta man now has a narrow margin of just one point ahead of his compatriot, and 5 points ahead of Spanish young gun GARCIA...
Second in the standings when he arrived in Castelo Branco, Loïc LARRIEU (F - Yamaha) also struggled in tackling this difficult Enduro Test (14/8). But at 21 points behind, he is still in with a chance of winning the "Brave One" belt in two GPs’ time.
Nathan WATSON (GB - KTM) was impressive on the first day of the race, but on Sunday could only manage 6th, WATSON however still sits in 5th place at the moment, while his team-mate Christophe NAMBOTIN (F) slips down to 7th (-/ -).
Strong performances also came from Matthew PHILLIPS (AUS - Sherco), 5th & 4th, and Eero REMES (SF - TM), 6th & 3rd. Portugal also marked a good weekend for Factory Husqvarna rider Christophe CHARLIER (F), 7th & 5th, and saw the Junior rider Albin ELOWSON (S - Husqvarna) score his first points in the “Brave One” Trophy, 8th on Saturday.

On this challenging Portuguese track, MCCANNEY and GARCIA were able to put themselves in the frame and take advantage of the difficulties encountered by HOLCOMBE and LARRIEU. With three riders now covered by just 5 points, it is all to play for in the Mika Ahola "Brave One" Trophy. Anything could happen during the next race - the FunnelWeb Filter GP of Great Britain on 23 and 24 September. Watch out for Loïc LARRIEU, who will be keen to fight back, and never count out riders such as WATSON, REMES, PHILLIPS or even NAMBOTIN, who will be ready to fight for the spoils!
